Iowa Juneteenth “Banquet”

 

On June 6, the Iowa Juneteenth Observance will be honoring some of Iowa’s most accomplished leaders regarding “grassroots” issues. Our Honorees are:

 

Jesse F. Taylor (posthumously), long-time community activist and colleague of Evelyn K. Davis

 

Professor Russell Lovell (faculty at Drake University Law School), champion of civil rights and pioneer in equal employment opportunities.

 

Jason Edwards (counselor at Cedar Rapids Thomas Jefferson High School).

 

Dr. Sandra McGee (faculty at the University of Iowa School of Social Work).

 

Walt Henderson, Jr. and Donna Douglas-Henderson (business owners), our incoming Iowa Juneteenth Observance King and Queen.

 

Cheryl Bolden (former Army Officer and public administrator), current community activist specializing in veterans affairs.

 

Rev. Goanar Chol (Des Moines Presbytery), works with the Sudanese communities in Iowa and Indiana.
