The River Bend Neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the City of Des Moines. The Neighborhood is bounded by Hickman Road to the north, University Avenue to the south, 2nd Avenue to the east, and 9th Street to the west.
Within this area, you’ll find a diverse mix of families living in some of the oldest homes in the city. Many of the houses in River Bend date back to the 1870’s.
The River Bend neighborhood has some beautiful homes which one can tour during one of the River Bend house tours; it’s close to downtown, but one of the best things about River Bend is the River Bend Neighborhood Association. They are committed to serving River Bend by helping to reduce crime, advocating for the neighborhood to be on the local historic district register, and hosting events and clean up projects.
The River Bend Neighborhood Association also does a monthly social at a local restaurant. This a great relaxed way to meet some of your neighbors. This is purely a social time and not for business. The Association’s general membership meeting is the second Monday of every month at the Salvation Army. Anyone can attend.
