Mondamin is situated between MLK Pkwy to the west, 13th street to the east, Hickman to the north, and Clark street to the south. It is located just minutes away from the central business district, airport, shopping, Interstate 235 and several medical facilities. This residential neighborhood also includes some small businesses that offer vehicle repairs, various type of insurance and even day care.
Mondamin Presidential is culturally diverse with a wide variety of nationalities and cultures that live as neighbors and are productive citizens of the community. The neighborhood is also home to variety of animals including deer, raccoon, opossum, and wild turkey. These residents can be seen in yards and gardens and crossing the streets in the area. The deer in particular enjoy eating the vegetables found in neighbors’ gardens and can be fun to watch.
The City of Des Moines recently completed a major sewer separation project, installed new curbs and gutters and replaced sections of sidewalks in the neighborhood.
Mondamin Presidential Neighborhood is participating in the Thrivent Builds Neighborhoods project, a collaborative effort with the City of Des Moines, Habitat for Humanity, DM Neighborhood Resource office, and over 20 other partners to make their neighborhood a great place to live.
MPNA monthly meetings are the 3rd Monday of every month at 6:00pm at the Casady school building 1801 16th St.
