King Irving Neighborhood Association

King Irving is situated between MLK Parkway to the West, 9th St. to the East, College and Clark to  the North, and University Avenue to the South.  King Irving became a recognized neighborhood in 1993 and were designated in 2001.  They are  minutes away from downtown, the  airport, shopping, Interstate 235 and medical facilities.

Located within the boundaries of King Irving are these community facilities

  • Forest Avenue Library,
  • Creative Visions,
  • John R. Grubb YMCA,
  • Evelyn K. Davis Park
  • King Academy of Math and Science,
  • 4 places of worship.

King Irving is a designated neighborhood which receives the benefits of the Neighborhood Based Service Delivery program, a unique program that combines the services of police sergeants, representatives from zoning/housing code enforcement, Public Works and Parks and Recreation.  King Irving participated in the neighborhood planning process with the City of Des Moines Community Development Department.  New improvements are happening all the time with  the help of King Irving residents, community partners  and the Thrivent Builds Neighborhoods Project.
