This is a note from Henny Ohr, Executive Officer of the Office of Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs at the Iowa Department of Human Rights. Find out how you can help refugees on their way to permanent residency.
CAN YOU SPARE A FEW HOURS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
Our next biannual Refugee “Green Card” Clinic will be held on Saturday, April 30th at the John R. Grubb Community YMCA. This clinic is a large scale opportunity for refugees to apply for permanent resident status with the assistance of volunteer immigration lawyers and community members. For many refugees, these volunteer run clinics are the only way they can become permanent residents as required by law.
We can’t provide this important service without your help! We are in need of volunteers and interpreters. Training will be provided. Please take a look at the attached volunteer form to select your areas of interest and availability.
We look forward to receiving your completed volunteer form by Monday, April 18.th Please send your form by email at RefugeeLegalClinic@gmail.com or by fax to Henny Ohr at 515.242.6119. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
PLEASE help us spread the word and FORWARD this email to anyone interested in making a difference for Iowa’s refugees!
